Trip Report CSCW2012

CSCW 2012

In February I attended the CSCW 2012 conference. The HCI&Usability Unit was present at the conference with a workshop:

Workshop on Exploring collaboration in challenging environments: From the car to the factory and beyond
Co-organizers: Dr. Alexander Meschtscherjakov (University of Salzburg, AUT), Prof. Manfred Tscheligi (University of Salzburg, AUT), Dr. Bilge Mutlu (University of Wisconsin-Madison), Prof. Vanessa Evers (University of Twente, NL), Prof. Volker Wulf (University of Siegen, GER)

At the workshop also two organizer position papers were presented, namely:

“Contextual Researches” – Challenges and Approaches in the Factory Context

Astrid Weiss, Patricia M. Kluckner, Roland Buchner, Manfred Tscheligi

How to bring collaborative work into the car

Nicole Gridling, Manfred Tscheligi

The position statements were lively discussed, even so livley that there was no time left for break-out sessions :-). All position papers and presentations can be found here

At the main track the ICT&S Center was present with 2 posters, which were presented two times at the conference:
“I need help!” Exploring Collaboration in the Car (presented by Prof. Tscheligi)
Nicole Gridling, Alexander Meschtscherjakov, Manfred Tscheligi
Repair Now: Collaboration between Maintainers, Operators and Equipment in a Cleanroom (presented by me)
Patricia M. Kluckner, Roland Buchner, Astrid Weiss, Manfred Tscheligi

Attendees were in general very interested in our work and about the contexts in which we are doing ethnographically inspired work.
